Replacing the high temp limit switch - 20 deluxe - 10 standard

Tools Required: Phillips Screwdriver, Standard Screwdriver, Pliers

  1. Unplug the electricity.
  2. Disconnect the vent pipe and lift slightly on the front of the unit and pull the toilet forward.
  3. Unscrew the retaining nut from the switch behind the seat and push the switch inside the unit.

  4. Remove the thermostat knob by gently prying upward with a Standard screwdriver.
  5. Unscrew the compost cover retaining nut by using a standard screwdriver and turning the nut counter-clockwise.  Remove the top by lifting on the front of the top while pushing in on the switch. Once the switch has cleared the hole in the top, lift on the rear of the top. The top may stick slightly due to silicon sealant used in production.

  6. Remove wire clamp at the top of the cassette by removing 2 Phillips screws.

  7. Unplug wires to the mixing motor (that were under the clamp removed in last step) from terminal block noting position of each wire using the chart below.
    Terminal # Wire Color
    1
    2

Note: Needle nose pliers and a slight side-to-side wiggle of the wire may be required as the connectors may fit tightly. DO NOT USE A FORWARD AND BACK WIGGLE. THIS MAY BREAK THE TERMINAL.
  8. Write the appropriate wire color in the respective block as you remove the wires
  9. Remove the four Phillips screws holding the cassette.

  10. Remove the cassette by lifting it.

  11. Turn cassette over so heating element and hi-temp limit switch can be seen.
  12. Follow the black wire on the hi-temp limit switch through the hole in cassette to the thermostat. Unplug the black wire from the thermostat.

  13. Cut and remove wire tie holding the brown wire.
  14. Break the brown wire loose from the nut on the bottom left side of the cassette that it is soldered to.
  15. Remove the two screws holding the hi-temp limit switch.

  16. Pull the two wires through the hole in the cassette, being careful not to kink or bend the thin metal wire running through the same hole, and discard old hi-temp limit switch.
  17. Insert new hi-temp limit switch and reinstall screws to hold it in place.
  18. Pass both wires through hole in cassette, being careful not to kink or bend the thin metal wire running through the same hole.
  19. Plug black wire into terminal on thermostat where removed in step 11.
  20. Pass brown wire under wall plug cord and solder onto the nut where removed in step 13.
  21. Replace the cassette into the unit base. Screw into place with 4 screws removed in step 8.
  22. Reconnect the wires from the mixer motor to the terminal block using chart in step 7.
  23. Replace the wire clamp holding the wires to the mixing motor that you removed in step 6.
  24. Put the top back on and connect the nut holding the switch behind the seat. On the Standard model, put the handle back and reinstall the shear pin.
  25. Plug the unit into a 120V AC outlet and test the operation of the unit.
  26. Put the toilet in place and reconnect the vent pipe.
