Is BioLet compost safe?
What you put into compost is what it contains. Bacteria that produce compost are pretty good at breaking down anything thrown at them. However, they do have some limitations such as certain medications and other chemicals. Pathogens and other disease causing bacteria are usually nothing but food to these good composting bacteria. However, sometimes a very small amount will remain.
- We recommend BioLet's compost be used just for landscaping and not for gardens. There is very small risk that food plants could absorb these chemicals and bad bacteria. Its best to always be safe.
- Your local health department may have special regulations on how to use or dispose human-compost. Every area has their own regulations so be sure to ask about them.
What is compost?
Compost is the organic substance left behind through the process of controlled decomposition. This substance is rich in nutrients that stimulates plant growth. While compost is usually completely free of harmful bacteria, we do not recommend BioLet's end product to be used in gardens or other food bearing plants just to be completely safe. However, this compost can be used for landscape fertilizer to great effect. Essentially, the compost BioLet's produce is identical to the material compost piles produce.
What about odors?
- BioLet is designed in a way that completely removes those odors.
- Compost itself does not have a scent when it is fully broke down. It is the exact same process that turns leaves on the forest floor into soil.
